Dawgs in the NIT
Like I said last week, if we'd got to around 50 in the RPI, we'd be a close call for an at-large bid, probably playing in Dayton tomorrow night. We only got to 64.
Instead, Vandy got there with an RPI of 61. We were beating Kentucky away from the tourney.
And give Mark Fox credit, that Kentucky game was his best coached game of the season, both in game and strategy. Regretfully, you can't coach around your best shooter/point guard spraining his ankle. If Frazier doesn't get hurt, I believe the game turns out differently.
As it is we'll host Belmont on Wednesday at 6pm in the first round of the NIT. You can get tickets, which are general admission, through UGA's ticket office for $15.
BTW, we are doing a bracket, but I'm waiting to get the link. I'll get it out as soon as I have it.

Congrats to our GSB Hoops Selection Methodology Competition
Dwayne Gilbert (Papadawg) of Watkinsville won by virtue of his tiebreaker win over ETDawg. My best set of picks, Pope of Podgrica, finished 14, with a couple of others not doing so well.
Dwayne graciously answered some questions for me:
Did you use some specific methodolgy?
Old age is my method, some teams play better in the tournament and some always get upset.
How many pools did you enter? Win any others?
I always enter the ESPN, but change the teams so I did not win any others.
Describe your level of college basketball fandom.
I really do not follow it much at all. Being 63, I get frustrated with the last 2 mins taking 20 mins.
Any favorite UGA hoops memories?
When I was in college I got to see Pistol Pete play here and put on a fantastic show. The other memory would be a triple OT win over LSU. We were heavy underdogs and Eric Marbury fell on the floor completely exhausted at the end of the game. Top ten is below.
Thanks to everyone who participated.

Georgia Sports Blog NCAA Tournament Selection Competition
Fairly tight competition going down. Two tied at 49 points and both leaders have 15 of the 16 through. I couldn't find anyone who picked Florida Gulf Coast to win, much less go to the Sweet 16.

Well over a quarter of the group is within 5 points, but Sweet 16 is usually separation time.
Also, I think BernieDawg misunderstood the assignment.

Join the Georgia Sports Blog NCAA Tourney Pool. The winner will get a copy of Bobby Knight's book “THE POWER OF NEGATIVE THINKING: An Unconventional Approach to Achieving Positive Results.”
We are using a Cinderella bonus. You get to select one team seeded 5th or higher. If they win, regardless if you actually pick them to win in your bracket, you get bonus points: First round-1pt, 2nd round-2pts, Sweet 16-3pts, Elite 8-4pts, Final Four-5pts, National Championship-6pts. Essentially, this is a side bonus that has nothing to do with your tournament picks that adds to your final total.

NCAA Tournament-SEC Teams
Florida got a 3 seed.
Missouri got a 9 seed.
Ole Miss got a 12 seed.
I didn't do too bad guessing those, right?
Join Georgia Sports Blog's NCAA Selection Methodology Competition. The winner gets a copy of Bobby Knight's book“THE POWER OF NEGATIVE THINKING: An Unconventional Approach to Achieving Positive Results” for the person that has the best bracket.
I'll have more on each of the three that made it to the NCAA tournament and their road/chances in the tournament. I'll also have a break down on the SEC's likely ownage of the NIT.

Georgia Sports Blog NCAA Tournament Selection Competition
I am working on a team selection methodology competition for our readers. Whether you use regression analysis, chaos theory, mascot dominance, random number generators, jersey color, sentient turtles, or pull names out of a hat, I'd like to see a demonstration of your selection abilities.
As a bonus, I'm also doing Cinderella pick bonus.
Enter here. I'm working on some sort of award to the entry that has the best display of methodology.
