The SEC is really good at this. Right at the start of spring practices, announce your media days schedule. Get those not focused on your (much improved) basketball league on football. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

The SEC refines it's posture on targeting
Hooo boy. Steve Shaw spoke at media days. We all knew that the Ramik Wilson amendment was coming on the targeting penalty. Now, if targeting is over turned, the 15 yard penalty and the ejection is over turned. But Steve Shaw wants his guys protected, too:
If I'm reading that right, the officials can now name two penalties, just to cover themselves. Go back and review Ramik's hit in the Vandy game:

"Any time there's a targeting foul, you need to really listen to the referee's announcement," he said. "What you will hear ... makes all the difference for replay. If you hear him announce, 'Personal foul, roughing the passer with targeting,' now regardless of the review, that 15-yard penalty is going to stand for roughing the passer. Same thing with kick/catch interference with targeting, late hit with targeting. In that announcement, if there are multiple components to the targeting foul, the 15-yard penalty will stay in."

Gurley on his offensive line
One thing going into this season that has me worried is the offensive line. We lost three guys off a line that was maddeningly inconsistent last year. If Georgia's offense is going to be any where near what it needs to be, especially early in the season until the defense gels, the line has to be good. Not great, but certainly top half of the conference.
Which is why I found this bit of kool aid mixing from Todd Gurley nice:
One other thing, I've been batting around this notion that we'll see some different sets to allow us to move those guys around a little bit. FSU's offense under OC Mark Richt used to have a bit smaller Olinemen, and they'd move those guys everywhere in blocking schemes. For a more recent (and painful) example, think how Boise State's Oline looked when we played them in the Dome.
Of course, making blocking schemes more complicated might just lead to Will Friend with a guy holding a towel over his head, which turned out so well for the unit who's coach did that last year.

No shock for the SEC Championship either, other than LSU falling from their traditional spot of, 'well, they are LSU, so we have to vote them this high.'

Alabama, Georgia Media Favorites to win their Division
The SEC Media has spoken, and they think Alabama will beat Georgia in the SECCG again. 'Bama gathered 182 out of a possible 243 votes. Georgia received 38. South Carolina got 18 of the remaining 23 votes.

First Three Weeks of SEC TV Times to be Announced Today
I've been working on two projects dealing with the Dawgs an TV. First is a look at the potential GameDay sites and how the Dawgs might fit into those. HINT: They'll be at Clemson.
The second is a projection of the times and networks for games. This year is a bit hard, since there is a new protocol controlling the airing. In years past, you figured out the CBS game and worked backwards from that. This year it could be different.
So, I've been waiting on this
As it stands, I think the South Carolina game is a mid-afternoon affair on ESPN, say 3pm. ESPN already has Florida at Miami scheduled for noon and Notre Dame at Michigan for 8pm.
I'll get the schedule up as soon as practical.

The SEC will announce kickoff times and TV coverage for the first three weeks of the season. That means we'll find out the start time for Georgia-South Carolina on Sept. 7. (Georgia has a bye on Sept. 14, and we already knew that opening week game at Clemson will be at 8 p.m.).That has been the case in years past, and I had been hearing it would be done again. Since the only question mark for Georgia in the first three weeks is South Carolina, I figured I'd wait to see if there are tea leaves to be read from the first three weekds, particularly weeks two and three.

Vandy releases names of dismissed players
Brandon Banks, Cory Batey, Jaborian "Tip" McKenzie and Brandon Vandenburg are currently under investigation by Nashville-Davidson Metro Police and are barred from Vandy's campus. The are also no longer on Vandy's football team.

But I also know the way Franklin rolls. He’s an in-your-face, bite-back kind of guy. He doesn’t back down, which has been a trademark of his first two teams at Vanderbilt.I think that is all any of us are hoping for. Not to make light of the situation in Nashville, but some people see Franklin's demeanor as a feature and celebrate that when they view it as being an asshole in other coaches. I bet we'll see just how much of a feature it is when he takes the podium today.

The commissioner has also been out front on cracking down on unscrupulous agents and supporting full cost of tuition. This is not the look of a league running rampant over the student-athlete on the way to deposit revenue checks.
It is said that winners write history. Why not let evolve what is happening before our eyes? That would be the SEC becoming the de facto NCAA.

SEC Media Thinks Georgia Has Easy Schedule, Too
The Dawgs are picked to win the East, LSU is picked to win the West and the Conference Championship, Alabama is picked to win the National Championship. Dawgs pick up 132 first place votes to place ahead of South Carolina. In the West, LSU picked up 139 votes to pace Alabama, however Alabama was picked by more voters to win the SEC than Georgia was. Basically, the writers have no confidence in the SEC East. Ole Miss, though picked to finish last in the West at 300 votes behind sixth place Mississippi State, did pick up one first place vote. That prevented them from finishing behind Troy.
Jarvis and Bacarri are first team All-SEC selections. Big John Jenkins is second team, as is Aaron Murray. Tavarres King and Kenarious Gates is third team. Six selections for All-SEC...that is it.
